      > Founded in 2002, Free Comic Book Day is a major annual promotion every year by the North American comic book industry to try and attract new readers to the genre by luring them to independent comic book stores. Currently, Diamond Comic Distributors is tasked with coordinating the event that was thought of by Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics in Concord, California. In order to attract potential new readers, comic book stores give away free special edition comic books, posters and some stores also offer discounts on other comic books or comic book memorabilia available for sale.
