The Syncopaths, who put a spirited kick into American and Celtic folk traditions, will feature songs from a new album during a concert in Pasadena.

This quartet has won fans for years with an improvisational and playful style. The Syncopaths can knock you over with the powerful singing of Christa Burch and get you jumping with the lively interplay of fiddle and mandolin by Ryan McKasson and Ashley Hoyer, gaining extra drive from Jeffrey Spero on piano and Burch on the bodhrán, an Irish hand drum. All four are accomplished tunesmiths, with recordings of original compositions on each of the band’s CDs.
The Syncopaths’ new album, Be Like The Sea, covers a range from standards such as The County Down, by Tommy Sands, and Tear My Stillhouse Down, by Gillian Welch, to new music such as William Blake’s Dead, by Rodney Miller, and Miraleia, by bandmember Spero.
The concert will begin at 8:00 pm in Caltech’s Beckman Institute Auditorium in the Beckman Institute building just west of the larger, round Beckman Auditorium. Free parking is available in lots on both sides of Michigan Avenue just south of Del Mar Boulevard and in two parking structures along Wilson Avenue just south of Del Mar Boulevard.
The event is presented by the Pasadena Folk Music Society. Tickets are available from the Caltech Ticket Office (626-395-4652) for $25, with $10 tickets available for Caltech students and anyone age 16 or younger.
