A suspect was arrested in the shooting of 64-year-old Mickey Cooper, a Pasadena resident and brother of former Lakers star, Michael Cooper.

Detectives from Pasadena Police Department identified a person of interest shortly after the homicide occured. Believing the suspect posed an immediate threat to the public, detectives coordinated an arrest operation with members of the US Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Taskforce, PPD SWAT, and PPD K-9 Unit.
24-year-old Aaron Miguel Conell was arrested without incident. Conell, a Pasadena resident, was booked at the Pasadena Police Department jail for a different and unrelated crime under (Assault w/ a Firearm). Over the weekend, detectives pursued their investigation and obtained further evidence pertaining to the murder of Cooper. On November 20, 2023, Conell’s booking charge was amended to include a murder charge.
Update
On November 21, 2023, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office charged Conell with Penal Code 187(a) (Murder), PC 664-187(a) (Attempted Murder), and Penal Code 245(b) (Assault with a Semiautomatic Firearm) under court case #23PDCF00017. Bail was set at $4,025,000.
