On May 28, 2023, at approximately 12:33 pm, the Monterey Park Police Department responded to the 1800 block of S. Atlantic Blvd. regarding a sexual assault in progress.

Monterey Park Police Department received information that a male suspect had tackled a female walking in the area and was possibly assaulting her.
Monterey Park Police arrived on scene and, with the assistance from the community, located the suspect attempting to flee the area. The Police arrested the suspect for assault with the intent to commit rape. The suspect is identified as Rudy Barboza, 37, from El Monte, who is currently on active parole. Barboza remains in custody with bail of $1,100,000.
Detectives are requesting that anyone with information that could lead to the identification of additional victims or witnesses contact the Monterey Park Police Department at 626-573-1311.
