Pasadena is turning 131 this year. To commemorate the occasion, a Birthday Celebration with free and fun festivities will take place this Sunday on the grounds of the Pasadena Museum of History (PMH), and everyone is invited!

      Prepared by Brian Rodriguez

Join the festivities as Pasadena Museum of History and the City of Pasadena present Happy Birthday Pasadena: Chalk Up Another Year! Mayor Terry Tornek and other VIPs will cut the cake at 2:30 pm.

      Theme

This year’s event takes its cue from PMH’s two art-focused summer exhibitions, Art in the Street: 25 Years of the Pasadena Chalk Festival and The Art of Getting There: Railroad Inspired Artistry. The grounds and gardens will be filled with music, art projects, and interactive opportunities galore.

      Participate

Get in the party spirit with balloons (Mind Blowing Balloons) and face painting (artist Carmen McDonald). Marvel at chalk artists – including Master Madonnaro Arlou Somo – as they turn cement walkways into masterpieces and try your hand at contributing to a Railroad themed mural. Create your own Railroad signs in the Art 2 Go workshop. Check out pop up displays around the grounds – each one will have something special. Don’t forget to get your train ticket punched at Stations throughout the grounds for a chance at a prize.

      Enjoy

After you visit the Chalk Festival and Railroad art exhibitions, check out the Finnish Folk Art Museum, tap your feet and/or sing along with performances throughout the grounds by the premier a cappella group Acasola.
