The scholarship program, established in 1999, was created by Commissioner Janet Elliot Mummey, a longtime advocate for women, children, and the elderly. Mummey dedicated her professional career to advancing women’s education and empowerment. Since its inception, the Resilience Scholarship has remained a cornerstone initiative of the Commission’s mission.
Applicants are required to submit two essays and two letters of recommendation. The deadline to apply is March 13. Eligibility requirements and the application link are available on the Commission’s website.
In encouraging students to take advantage of the opportunity, Kathryn Barger urged local applicants to participate. “I encourage Fifth District students to apply,” Barger said.
Over the past 25 years, the Commission for Women has awarded more than half a million dollars in educational scholarships to women across Los Angeles County, underscoring its longstanding commitment to supporting academic achievement and resilience.
