On May 7th, San Gabriel became the first city in California to pass a Resolution declaring January 28th annual “Stand Against Hate Action Day.”

The Act Against Hate Alliance supported SCR 15 statewide, and it passed unanimously in the State Senate and Assembly. Act Against Hate alliance is a bipartisan coalition of state leaders, local elected officials, and professionals from a range of industries who seek to create dialogue around the issue of hate crimes and promote effective solutions to deter and prevent them.
Aidan Chao, a student at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada, and an Arcadia resident, spoke in favor of this resolution at a recent San Gabriel City Council meeting. He now serves as a leader in numerous civic groups including as Chairman of the Los Angeles County Taxpayers Association and Director of Youth Initiatives at Act Against Hate Alliance. Currently, he is working with dozens of cities to pass this same resolution, as well as supporting the growth of AAHA’s youth chapters in high schools around California.
