On Wednesday, October 18th at 7:00 pm, Active SGV will host Chuck Marohn, founder and president of Strong Towns.
By News Desk
This discussion will shine a vital light on street safety issues and will present real, long-term solutions. It will take place at Throop Church, 300 S. Los Robles in Pasadena. Strong Towns founder Chuck Marohn will discuss with Rick Cole, current Pasadena Planning Commissioner, how unsafe streets lead to unlivable communities, and how the new Crash Analysis Studio helps cities solve this problem.
On a daily basis, we hear about people who are killed in car crashes. The deaths of people walking, and biking are particularly troubling, and yet these “accidents” keep happening. The “solutions” typically employed by local agencies include enforcement, education, and some small engineering projects, but none of these actions are truly solving the problem.
Strong Towns says that street design in the U.S, has been grossly negligent. They believe that we need a radical rethinking of the way we address street safety for those outside of a car; people walking, biking, skating, scooting, and taking public transit – one that will make streets safer for everyone and make our communities more economically productive in the process.
