Northeast LA Walking Club (Photo – NELA Walking Club)
Enjoy the evening breezes and good company as the season cools down with the Northeast Los Angeles Walking Club. Organized by Alex Romero, the group aims to build community through simple, free explorations on foot.

Known as NELA, the group gathers every Monday at 5:30 pm at the Jack in the Box on Avenue 43 and Figueroa Street (6250 York Boulevard, Highland Park).
Romero describes their vision: “Boost your mental health with the NELA Walking Club. We rediscover our surroundings through active neighborhood walks and scenic hikes. Every path offers a chance to explore and connect with new friends.”
The group’s Instagram features past walks through the Arroyo Seco, neighborhood streets and parks, and local mosaics, schools, and other public spaces. Walks are occasionally canceled due to weather conditions, including extreme heat; cancellations are announced on social media.
Meet a few neighbors and enjoy the area the old-fashioned way, one step at a time.
