On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, staff from across the South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD) gathered in Anderson Auditorium to kick off the 2026–27 school year.

The keynote speaker was Terry Madigan, President of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and an SPHS alumnus. Madigan welcomed staff and shared advice he would give to his 17-year-old self.
His heartwarming speech emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and belonging, as well as the lasting impact educators have on students’ lives.
The event also featured remarks from Superintendent Angela Elizondo Baxter and SPUSD Board President Michele Kipke. New employees were introduced by Principals Emily Blaney, Noelle Fong, Julia Johnson, Cheryl Busick and John Eldred, along with Executive Director of Student Support Services Nancy Goldstein.
SPUSD looks forward to welcoming students back to school on August 12, 2026.
