The city has been awarded $550,000 through Measure A from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD), along with an additional $193,992 from Proposition 68, the State of California Parks and Water Bond of 2018.
These competitive grants will help fund the development of two new green spaces: Grevelia Pocket Park and Dr. Beatriz Solis Memorial Park, located at Berkshire Pocket Park. This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand recreational amenities and improve public access to open spaces in South Pasadena.
Grant Support from RPOSD and Proposition 68
RPOSD, a special district under the Los Angeles County government, allocates funding from property tax revenue to support the creation and enhancement of parks and open spaces. Measure A, passed by voters in 2016, has been a primary source of funding for such projects. Proposition 68, approved in 2018, provides bond funding for local and state parks, environmental restoration, and flood protection.
Both funding sources have been instrumental in enabling South Pasadena to move forward with these park developments, designed to increase public access to green spaces and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
Progress on Park Construction
Construction of the new pocket parks is already underway, with both projects slated for completion by the end of September 2025. These parks will provide much-needed recreational spaces for residents, offering areas for outdoor activities, relaxation, and community gatherings.
The City of South Pasadena extends its gratitude to the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District and the State of California for their continued support of local park and open space initiatives.
