South Pasadena’s Arroyo Vista student, Ivy Malach, received an Award for Outstanding Interpretation for Literature.

Ivy Malach, a second grader at Arroyo Vista School in South Pasadena, received an Award of Excellence in the 2024 National PTA Reflections Competition for her piece “Spring Hope” about overcoming tragedy.
SPUSD teachers, along with South Pasadena PTAs, encouraged students to submit artistic entries in the PTA National Reflections Program. Ivy earned recognition at the local and state levels before her piece was submitted to the National PTA. This organization received more than 900 student entries inspired by the 2023-2024 Reflections theme I am Hopeful Because….
Ivy’s literature was reviewed by a national panel of judges and scored highly on her interpretation of the theme, creativity and technical skills. As an Award of Excellence winner, Ivy received a $200 Young Artist Scholarship, a silver medallion, and an Award of Excellence certificate.
