On April 22, 2023, the South Pasadena Middle School (SPMS) Advanced Choir competed at the Verdugo Hills Scholarship Festival, taking home a $5,500 cash prize.

      By News Desk

The scholarship money will be deposited with the SPMS Music Boosters who fund various needs of the choral program.

Judges graded the choir against nine criteria (e.g. tone, blend, diction, interpretation) and gave them an average score of 90/100.

The choir sang a new work composed by Sarah Quartel called Songbird and an a cappella arrangement of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors. Both of these songs will be performed at the May 17 Spring Concert, which will be held in the SPMS Auditorium at 6:30 pm.
