INSIDE OUR SCHOOLS
Fourteen SPHS students participated in the Los Angeles Regional Science Olympiad at Rio Hondo College on Saturday, March 4, 2023. The team placed 8th out of 58 teams and qualified for the state tournament in April.

The team placed in the top six in the following events:
- Cell Biology (Abby and William) – 6th Place
- Chemistry Lab (Ada and Alyssa) – 4th Place
- Forestry (Tia and Ty) – 1st Place
- It’s About Time (Alexa and Wings) – 6th Place
- Remote Sensing (Kathy and Tia) – 6th Place
- Write It Do It (Clare and Sarah) – 1st Place
The members of the team are: Sarah Baek (grade 10), Ada Bild (grade 11), Alexa Chang (grade 9), William Chang (grade 10), Abby Chen (grade 11), Hanna Diop (grade 11), Tia Guang (grade 12), Clare Maurer (grade 10), Krish Patel (grade 11), Alyssa Rocca (grade 11), Kathy Tam (grade 11), Kai Tilley (grade 9), Ty Yue (grade 10), Wings Zhang (grade 9).
Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers.
