With abundant sunshine throughout the San Gabriel Valley, solar power continues to be a natural fit for Pasadena households seeking to reduce energy costs and rely more on renewable energy sources.
According to information provided by the City of Pasadena, homeowners considering solar installation should begin by evaluating several key factors, including the size of the system they may need, potential return on investment, and whether to lease or purchase a system outright.
The city recommends reviewing the Solar Consumer Protection Guide before making any decisions. The guide is designed to help residents understand available options and avoid common pitfalls associated with solar contracts and financing.
Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) also offers Net Surplus Compensation, sometimes referred to as Net Energy Metering, for customers whose solar systems generate more electricity than they use. The program is outlined under Pasadena Municipal Code 13.04.177.
Additional resources are available through the city’s informational website, including frequently asked questions, instructions for solar applications, eligibility requirements for residential and commercial installations, and energy efficiency recommendations.
Residents who still have questions can contact an electric service planner through PWP for assistance with the solar installation process. Officials note that planners may be working in the field and responses to inquiries can take up to two business days.
For billing and usage history, residents can call Pasadena Power at (626) 744-4005. General solar inquiries can be directed to (626) 744-4495.
