Los Angeles Fire Department crews reported that shifting wind conditions caused a flare-up inside a structure in the 1000 block of Los Palos Street in Boyle Heights.

Officials said additional smoke may be visible in the area as firefighters continue suppression efforts. Despite the increased smoke, authorities emphasized that there is no heightened risk to the public and that no shelter-in-place order has been issued. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for an extended period as operations continue.
Meanwhile, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) has extended its particle pollution advisory through Saturday at 1:00 pm due to smoke from smoldering materials that may continue to affect air quality in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, and nearby foothill communities, depending on wind conditions.
An air quality alert also remains in effect for Pasadena, San Gabriel, and Pomona until 1 p.m. Saturday. Officials warned that particle pollution levels can vary significantly by location and time, depending on emissions and local weather conditions.
Health officials cautioned that fine particle pollution can penetrate deep into the lungs and contribute to serious health problems, including heart attacks, bronchitis, asthma attacks, and other breathing difficulties. While anyone can be affected, those at greatest risk include people with heart or lung disease, older adults, pregnant individuals, children, and people who spend significant time outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local Air Quality Index (AQI) conditions and adjust outdoor activities as needed. During periods of poor air quality, officials recommend keeping windows and doors closed, using air conditioners or air purifiers when possible, avoiding whole-house fans or evaporative coolers that draw outdoor air indoors, and limiting additional sources of indoor pollution such as fireplaces, candles, incense, grilling, and gasoline-powered lawn equipment.
Current and forecast air quality information is available through the South Coast AQMD.
