The Sierra Madre Public Library reopened Saturday, June 6, 2026, to an enthusiastic welcome from the community, celebrating the completion of a renovation and construction project that lasted more than two years.

The day began with an opening ceremony led by Scouting America Troop 373, which presented the colors. Remarks were delivered by former Assemblymember Chris Holden, along with representatives for Assemblymember John Harabedian, State Senator Sasha Renée Pérez, and California State Librarian Greg Lucas.
Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger presented the library with a formal certificate of recognition during the ceremony. The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting that brought together many of the advocates, supporters, and community leaders who helped bring the project to completion.
Following the ceremony, festivities continued outside the library. Community members enjoyed a Lion Dance performance by the San Gabriel Valley Chinese Cultural Association, as well as activities that included a chalk artist, balloon animals for children, refreshments, and snacks.
Inside the newly renovated facility, patrons explored the updated spaces and expanded offerings. Families signed up for the Summer Reading Program, participated in a word scavenger hunt throughout the building, and visited the new Friends of the Sierra Madre Library Children’s Room. Others waited to check out books and experience the library’s new amenities.
The Sierra Madre Public Library will operate on a summer schedule during June and July, remaining open from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays.
