The last day to check out books will be October 14th, and the Public Library building at 440 W. Sierra Madre Boulevard will be closed to the public from October 16th through November. During the closure period, all electronic resources will be available, but in-person programming and services will be suspended. No book returns will be taken during that time and all due dates will be extended.
The Library It will reopen in December at its temporary site, just down the street, at 350 West Sierra Madre Boulevard.
The Library’s Meaningful Renovation Project has been funded by dual grants, from the California State Library, and from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The grants will total over 10 million dollars. These funds will be used for long-overdue work on the existing library building, including seismic upgrades and improvements, building upgrades, deferred maintenance, and green space renovation. Other issues to be addressed include renovations to ensure compliance with the American Disability Act, fire safety, heating, ventilation and air conditioning upgrades, window installation and repair, and asbestos abatement.
All these necessary issues require this temporary move to Sierra Madre Blvd. during which the librarians will strive to keep serving the public in every way possible. Sierra Madre looks forward to a safer, more inviting Library for its citizens.
