Harry Wong, who currently serves as the Director of Finance & Administration for the City of Lynwood, brings nearly 15 years of municipal finance experience to his new role, with a strong track record in managing large city budgets and leading finance teams through challenging financial environments.
Wong’s extensive experience includes prior positions with the cities of Monterey Park, Buena Park, and Garden Grove. His expertise spans a wide range of financial management areas, including operating and capital budget administration, debt management, payroll, and complex accounting. Wong is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds both a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and Business Law from CSU Northridge and a master’s degree in Business Administration from UC Irvine.
“I’m excited to join a community known for its safety and rich history,” said Wong in a statement. “I look forward to supporting the City Council and the City’s leadership team to enhance fiscal stability, navigate current budget challenges, and support the high level of service residents expect.”
As Sierra Madre faces ongoing budgetary pressures, Wong’s leadership will be critical in ensuring fiscal stability and maintaining essential services to the community. City Manager Bruckner praised Wong for his ability to balance technical expertise with hands-on municipal leadership. “Harry brings the rare combination of technical depth and real-world municipal leadership,” Bruckner said. “He’s stepped into tough situations, stabilized core financial operations, and helped organizations make disciplined choices without losing sight of service to residents. That’s exactly what Sierra Madre needs right now.”
Wong is also credited for leading Lynwood’s financial and operational improvements in response to a review by the California State Auditor, which had designated the city as a high-risk local government. His leadership was instrumental in turning the city’s finances around, ensuring that it met the expectations of residents and the State Auditor.
Wong will officially begin his tenure with the City of Sierra Madre on March 3, 2026.
