If you love cheering for South Pasadena’s hometown Rose Parade float on New Year’s Day, here’s a chance to help make next year’s entry possible.

With all proceeds benefiting South Pasadena’s 2027 Rose Parade float, Welcome to the Neighborhood, the community is invited to the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses’ annual yard sale on Friday, Aug. 14, and Saturday, Aug. 15, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the War Memorial Building, 435 Fair Oaks Ave., in South Pasadena.
The oldest self-built float in the Rose Parade, South Pasadena’s entry is created entirely by volunteers, from construction and decoration to the fundraising needed to cover the annual $150,000 cost of materials and the large tent that houses the float from August through December each year.
Donate First…
Community members can help support the 2027 float in two ways: first, by donating items to the sale and then returning to shop for treasures.
Donations* of gently used items are encouraged and may be dropped off at the War Memorial Building during the following times:
- Tuesday, Aug. 11 (5:00 –8:00 pm) — Basement door off the parking lot
- Wednesday, Aug. 12 (4:00 –8:00 pm) — Basement door off the parking lot
- Thursday, Aug. 13 (4:00 –8:00 pm) — Front entrance to the main building
…Then Shop, Shop, Shop
The yard sale opens on Friday, August 14, at 8:00 am and runs both days, Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The annual sale features a wide array of items, including furniture, collectibles, books, tools, clothing, kitchenware, jewelry, toys, holiday decorations, electronics, and more; all affordably priced for shoppers on the hunt for hidden treasures.
Organized once again by longtime committee members Steve Fillingham and Janet Benjamin, the sale draws hundreds of shoppers each year, from bargain hunters to vintage enthusiasts.
“This yard sale is entirely community-driven,” said Benjamin. “From the neighbors who donate their treasures to the volunteers who sort and sell them, to the shoppers who show up to buy them, everyone plays a part in getting South Pasadena’s float to Colorado Boulevard on New Year’s Day.”
When South Pasadena’s float makes its way down Colorado Boulevard on New Year’s Day, donors and shoppers alike can take pride in knowing they helped make it happen.
*Mattresses, entertainment centers, and large appliances cannot be accepted. Tax-deductible donation receipts will be available.
