The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) has officially adopted its first Regional Community Wildfire Protection Plan, marking a major milestone in strengthening wildfire preparedness and reducing wildfire risk across the region.

The plan comes as wildfire risk remains a pressing concern following the recent devastating Los Angeles County wildfires. Regional leaders say its adoption underscores the need for coordinated action to better protect homes, infrastructure, natural resources, and residents from future fire threats.
Developed over two years with input from SGVCOG member cities, public safety officials, community stakeholders, and residents, the plan identifies regional wildfire hazards and community vulnerabilities while outlining 60 recommendations to strengthen wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and long-term resilience.
In addition to serving as a roadmap for wildfire mitigation, the plan positions the San Gabriel Valley and its member cities to pursue future grant funding for wildfire prevention, fuel reduction, emergency preparedness, and resilience projects, helping bring additional resources to communities facing growing wildfire risks.
