SB 492 Fails as Harabedian Calls for Utility Reform

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena) and his colleagues declined to pass SB 492, a bill reauthorizing the state’s wildfire fund.

Harabedian said the proposal would not benefit Eaton Fire survivors or address what he described as California’s fundamentally broken utility system.

“We cannot pass SB 492 today because it does not help any Eaton Fire survivors or reform our fundamentally broken utility system,” Harabedian said. “SoCal Edison burned down my community and hasn’t spent a dime reinvesting in Altadena. This proposal didn’t do anything to change that. This proposal only rearranges the chairs on the deck of the Titanic while all Californians are desperate for meaningful utility reform.”

Harabedian said lawmakers would continue working on proposals to reform the state’s utility system, hold utilities accountable and deliver affordable energy to Californians.
