For hikers who’ve been avoiding the trails during recent heat waves, this Saturday could offer a welcome change of pace.

      By Melanie Hooks

ActiveSGV is hosting a morning hike along the Gabrielino Trail as part of its Rivers & Mountains Explorer Series, with participants gathering at 8:00 am on April 25, 2026, at the Gabrielino Lower Parking Lot on Explorer Road.

Forecasts call for 54°F and a slight chance of rain, but organizers say the outing will go on as planned.

The guided hike will highlight recent successes in expanding the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and ongoing efforts to protect and improve public access to local public lands. Along this stretch of the Gabrielino Trail, one segment of a 28.8‑mile route, participants will cover approximately 7.5 miles out and back, encountering several water crossings along the way. The route is considered moderately challenging.

Because of the distance and terrain, the event is not recommended for children under 12. Dogs are welcome but must remain leashed at all times. Snacks will be provided.

Advance registration is required, and each attendee must register individually, even when joining as a family group. Reservations can be made through Eventbrite. Questions may be directed to topher@activesgv.org.
