Residents of San Marino whose homes were built in 1926 or earlier are being invited to take part in a special community celebration honoring the city’s architectural heritage.

The San Marino Historical Society has introduced its new Centennial Home Project, an initiative designed to recognize homes reaching their 100th anniversary with commemorative yard signs.
The special Centennial signs will be awarded to eligible homes as a way for homeowners to proudly showcase their property’s milestone birthday and celebrate the community’s historic character.
To participate, residents are asked to submit their address, the year their home was built, and a photograph of the property by email to Project Chair Hector Gutierrez at lacitybroker@gmail.com.
Homeowners uncertain about the construction date of their property can contact the Historical Society directly at info@sanmarinohistoricalsociety.org for assistance with historical research.
The program is available to active members of the Historical Society. Organizers noted that local groups, including San Marino Heritage, may occasionally help underwrite memberships and support qualifying historic homeowners in an effort to encourage broad participation.
The project was originally proposed by Historical Society member Boyd Smith and reflects the organization’s ongoing efforts to preserve and celebrate San Marino’s historic neighborhoods and residences.
Additional information on preservation resources and municipal design guidelines is available through the City of San Marino Planning Department.
