Residents and community groups from across the San Gabriel Valley are preparing to rally on Saturday, May 2, to protest the City of Industry’s continued pursuit of large-scale data centers and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The event is scheduled from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and is expected to draw participants from multiple cities and neighborhoods concerned about environmental and public‑health impacts.

The gathering will begin at Schabarum Regional Park, where speakers, including coalition leaders, local residents, and community advocates, will address attendees from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. After the program, demonstrators will move to the public sidewalk along Colima Road, directly across from Puente Hills Mall, the site of a previously proposed data center project.
Organizers say the protest aims to highlight what they describe as a long pattern of land‑use decisions by the City of Industry that have placed disproportionate burdens on surrounding communities.
“For too long, surrounding communities have been expected to absorb the environmental and public health impacts of decisions made by the City of Industry without meaningful input,” said Andrew Yip, an organizer with the No Data Centers SGV Coalition. “Residents across the region are standing together to demand accountability and responsible development.”
Coalition members have voiced concerns about fire risks associated with battery storage facilities, increased energy demand, industrial noise, pollution, and the cumulative effects of large‑scale industrial development near residential areas.
The No Data Centers SGV Coalition includes organizations such as Avocado Heights Vaqueros, No Data Center Monterey Park, PSL – Los Angeles, Puente Hills Community Preservation Association, SGV Progressive Action, and SGV Voices for Change, along with residents from across the region.
