Assemblymember John Harabedian (D-Pasadena) has named San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity the Assembly District 41 Nonprofit of the Year, recognizing the organization’s efforts to help rebuild Altadena in the 16 months following the Eaton Fire.

      By News Desk

Harabedian praised the nonprofit’s response to the disaster and its continued commitment to assisting families affected by the fire.

“From the earliest days after the Eaton fire, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity has been there for our community, helping survivors begin their difficult path home,” Harabedian said. “At a time when families were facing unimaginable loss and uncertainty, Habitat showed up with compassion, urgency, and action. In Altadena, their work is helping people hold onto the belief that their future can still be rebuilt. That dedication to serving families in their hardest moments is why I was proud to recognize San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity as Nonprofit of the Year.”

The Eaton Fire devastated large portions of Assembly District 41 on Jan. 7, 2025. In the aftermath of the disaster, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity began working with survivors and local partners to support reconstruction efforts across affected neighborhoods.

The organization has committed to rebuilding at least 25 homes in Altadena and has set a long-term goal of rebuilding 100 or more homes in the coming years. In addition, Habitat’s ReStore location in Pasadena has helped fire survivors replace lost belongings by offering affordable furniture and household items.

San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity was formally recognized in Sacramento during a special event hosted by CalNonprofits. As part of the recognition, the organization received an official resolution from Harabedian commemorating the honor.

The annual Nonprofit of the Year designation highlights organizations making significant contributions to their communities, with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity earning recognition for its ongoing role in recovery and rebuilding efforts following the Eaton Fire.
