Interviews to fill the San Gabriel City Council positions vacated by Jason Pu and Chin Ho Liao, occurred on February 9 and 10, 2022.
By News Desk
The interviews were open to the public and held at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse to allow for appropriate social distancing. The interviews were also live-streamed on YouTube and a local cable channel.
There were twenty-three applications submitted by the deadline on February 8. Nineteen applicants were present on February 9th for the initial interview process, after four withdrew. The initial interviews allowed each applicant five minutes to present their background, community involvement and qualifications to be a city council member.
Six applicants were selected from the initial round to return for a more in-depth dialogue the following evening. Applicant forms and resumes are available for review on the San Gabriel city website link.
After a 3-hour session, and several rounds of voting, two candidates were appointed. Both have been residents of San Gabriel for more than 20 years and are local business owners. Carina Rivera and John Wu will take the oath of office and be officially appointed at the upcoming February 15th city council meeting. They both will serve and complete the terms of Pu and Liao, which end in November 2022.
The full meetings and interviews are available for viewing on the City’s YouTube channel. View the Feb. 10, 2022, meeting below.
