The City of San Gabriel will introduce an application process for grants for businesses that have been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
By News Desk
The City will distribute $70,000 to qualified businesses through a random lottery system as part of its new 10-Point Plan. The 10-Point Plan aims to support and strengthen the San Gabriel business community through grants, supplies and resources via the City’s Economic Development Division.
San Gabriel Mayor Denise Menchaca said:
The businesses in San Gabriel are an important element to what makes San Gabriel such a special place to live, work and play. The pandemic has really had a devastating effect on business and the economy as a whole, and the City Council is proud to be able to provide these business grants and donated personal protective equipment to help support our businesses during this unprecedented time.
Business grant guidelines
The press conference in front of San Gabriel City Hall on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, will highlight how businesses may apply for relief funding via SanGabrielED.com. Business grant guidelines in English, Chinese, Vietnamese and Spanish will be published online on July 28 or sent via mail upon request, and the application will be available on August 3. Applications will be accepted online or via mail, and the deadline to submit is August 28 at 5:00 pm.
Drive-through event
Officials from the City will also highlight a drive-through event at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse on August 3 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am and from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. San Gabriel businesses are invited to drive-through and exchange a San Gabriel business card for a business supply kit complete with personal protective equipment, information about the business grant program and other elements of the 10-Point Plan.
Funding
Funding for the program comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) using funding provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
