Two local police departments, San Gabriel and Alhambra, are teaming up this weekend to help residents safely clear out unwanted or expired prescription medications. The community event will take place Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The collection effort is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, an annual nationwide program that offers people a free, anonymous way to dispose of medications they no longer need. The goal is to prevent misuse, accidental ingestion, and improper disposal that can harm the environment. No identification is required, and no questions will be asked.
Residents can drop off most prescription and over‑the‑counter medications, but there are a few restrictions. Syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted. Liquids such as cough syrup must remain sealed in their original containers. Vaping devices and cartridges are allowed as long as lithium batteries have been removed.
Collection sites include:
- San Gabriel Police Station 625 S. Del Mar Ave., San Gabriel
- Alhambra Police Department 211 S. 1st St., Alhambra
