Come to the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center on August 23 to hear Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) speakers.
By News Desk
The event will focus on the transformational impact of water. Join public health expert Aizita Magaña and paralympic swimming medalist Jamal Hill for a meaningful conversation to encourage inclusivity and equitability within the aquatic community. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
Aizita Magaña
Aizita Magaña is a public health professional in Los Angeles, directing the Vaccine Preventable Disease Control Program at Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Magaña works to improve health disparities among racially and ethnically diverse populations. She holds a B.A. in Women’s Studies from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan.
Jamal Hill
Jamal Hill is a Team USA professional swimmer, ten-time national champion, and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic medalist. When Hill was 10 years old, he was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) – a hereditary neurological condition that can result in progressive loss of muscle tissue and touch sensation in the body. This threatened to halt Hill’s passion for swimming. However, today Jamal Hill is ranked #1 in the U.S. Paralympic 50 Free and #3 in the world, and founded the Swim Up Hill Foundation Inc. to lower the global drowning rate by teaching students how to swim.
