Ron Sahu has announced his candidacy for the Alhambra City Council District 1 seat currently held by Councilmember Katherine Lee.

A resident of Alhambra since 1988, Sahu and his family have lived in the city for nearly four decades. His children attended Alhambra public schools.
Sahu has served on the city’s Planning Commission and Environmental Sustainability Commission. He is also a member of Grassroots Alhambra, a community organization that supported a citizen-led ballot measure amending the city’s charter to establish district-based elections and campaign contribution limits.
According to his campaign, Sahu has participated in several local land-use and environmental efforts. Those include organizing opposition to a proposed development at Story Park, advocating for delays to development proposals on contaminated land near Fremont Avenue, and serving on the Planning Commission during updates to Alhambra’s General Plan, Zoning Code and related planning documents.
Sahu has also worked with other community members to raise concerns about the city’s housing planning requirements. He is currently involved in a Grassroots Alhambra campaign focused on Measure R transportation funding and city spending. In addition, he serves on the Alhambra Unified School District’s Enrollment Impact Committee, which is examining declining student enrollment and its effects on the district.
Sahu holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering, including graduate degrees from the California Institute of Technology. He worked for several engineering firms, including Parsons in Pasadena, before becoming an independent environmental and energy engineering consultant.
He has also taught as an adjunct faculty member at several Southern California universities, including Caltech, UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount University, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.
As part of his campaign platform, Sahu said he would focus on city finances, fees, government transparency and accountability, land-use planning, housing and transportation.
The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
