Alhambrans have until April 30, 2026, to give the City of Alhambra their input on the Sustainable Alhambra Plan and help shape a shared vision of sustainability.

      By Melissa Michelson

The sustainability plan is still in its planning phases, and the City is requesting public input on the draft Sustainable Alhambra Plan (March 2026).

“Sustainable Alhambra includes targeted strategies to help Alhambra prepare for and adapt to extreme heat, drought, flooding, and other climate-related impacts.”

Some of the many topics covered in the plan include:

      • Greywater systems
      • Bioretention in streetscapes
      • Air quality management
      • Moving toward zero waste
      • Building a green economy
      • Establishing a fruit tree and plant giveaway program and integrating edible landscapes into parks
      • Installing solar and other renewable energy systems on viable city-owned properties

The public can use the form Public Comment for Draft Sustainable Alhambra Plan to comment on the draft strategies, targets, and actions.

The plan outlines implementation steps and milestones, aiming to “evolve in response to emerging challenges, new technologies, and opportunities for innovation, keeping Alhambra on the path to a more sustainable future for all.”

More information is available on the City’s Sustainable Alhambra webpage.
