Today, after the United States launched what President Donald Trump described as a “major military operation” in Iran, Judy Chu (CA-28) issued a statement condemning the action and urging congressional intervention.

Chu criticized the president’s decision, calling it an “unlawful war” initiated without congressional authorization. She argued that there was no imminent threat to the United States, no long-term strategy in place, and no support from the American public to justify the military action.
“The House of Representatives must immediately take a vote on H.Con.Res. 38, a War Powers Resolution that I cosponsor to halt all military operations in Iran without Congressional authorization,” Chu said.
While acknowledging that the Iranian regime is “brutal” and “repressive” and has denied its people freedom and dignity for generations, Chu maintained that those conditions do not grant the president unilateral authority to launch a pre-emptive military operation.
She also warned of the potential consequences of such action, stating that Americans have already witnessed similar approaches fail in Iraq and Afghanistan at significant human and financial cost.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions following the administration’s announcement of military action in Iran.
