Rep. Chu Announces $9.6 Million in Relief for the Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl has been awarded $9.6 million by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG), which Democrats in the House and Senate passed as part of the American Rescue Plan.

      By News Desk

This grant is awarded to venues such as museums, theaters, concert halls, and arenas that had to cease operations during the pandemic.

Congress provided an additional $16 million in grants to twenty venues in the San Gabriel Valley, including the Pasadena Playhouse, the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, and the Kidspace Children’s Museum. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), who represents the Rose Bowl, issued the following statement:

From hosting live concerts to flea markets to national sporting events, the Rose Bowl has been a long-standing pillar of entertainment and culture in Southern California, and one that is a source of pride for all in our area. But like so many other venues, the Rose Bowl was one of the first to have to shut down and is still feeling the pain from the pandemic. That is why I am so proud to have been able to help them secure more funds through the American Rescue Plan’s SVOG program.

This grant will allow them to recover from the pandemic and ensure the Rose Bowl is ready to resume high-quality events again as they have for so many decades. As we recover from this pandemic, I am proud to have supported historic investments like the American Rescue Plan that are making a return to normal possible. And I am committed to passing the Build Back Better Act so we can help more Americans get back to work.
