Join a conversation at the USC Pacific Asia Museum led by award-winning filmmaker Mohammed Ali (Mo) Naqvi.

      By News Desk

Described as one of South Asia’s most important filmmakers, Mo will share his journey from off-Broadway theater to being interrogated by the FBI in a post-9/11 world. Drawing from his acclaimed works, including the Emmy-nominated The Accused: Damned Or Devoted? and the Independent Spirit Award-nominated Among The Believers, Mo will explore the delicate balance between fiction and truth in storytelling from his acclaimed independent films to global Netflix series hits.

Mohammed Ali (Mo) Naqvi is an Academy of Motion Pictures and Television Academy member. He produced two seasons of the Netflix Original Top 10 docu-series Turning Point. Mo received the inaugural Emmy Television Academy Honor for directing and producing the Showtime Original Shame. He has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award, a Cinema Eye Honor, and the UNESCO-FELLINI Prize. His portfolio includes productions for Showtime, HBO, MTV, CNN, Discovery, Starz, BBC, and Hulu. His films have been screened at a number of festivals including Toronto, Berlin, Busan, and Tribeca, and showcased at the Museum of Modern Art.

Other notable documentaries include Naqvi’s Emmy-nominated Among the Believers (PBS World), Emmy nominated The Accused: Damned Or Devoted? (BBC, Arte/ZDF, PBS World), winner of the Asian Media Award, UNAFF Grand Jury Winner for Pakistan’s Hidden Shame (Channel 4 UK), and Insha’Allah Democracy (BBC, STARZ). Naqvi has produced fiction features including the road-trip drama Big River (Official Selection at the Berlin Film Festival) and the comedy I Will Avenge You Iago, starring Giancarlo Esposito and Larry Pine. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, Naqvi is the chairman of the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee which selects Pakistan’s official submission for the Academy Awards.
