      ALTADENA – ColoradoBoulevard.net:

Eliot Arts Magnet middle school is hosting a rare tour of its iconic tower on February 24, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

      By News Desk

Tickets to the Twilight Tower Tour are $50 each, and all proceeds go to the Annual Fund to support the arts programs at Eliot. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, student artwork and music will be exhibited, and participants will be given an inside look at the museum, the history of the school,  and, of course, the tower.

Dr. Benita Scheckel who serves as the Executive Principal of Altadena and Eliot Arts Magnet K-8 school is “absolutely thrilled to be able to show our friends and community members the view from the tower.” The top of the tower has been a sacred space for students and faculty over the last century. Those that have earned the right to reach its heights have signed their names in respect and with pride. Guests will be led up the front staircase, with its original chrome spiral banister, then behind locked doors into the facility rooms of the tower. Up two flights of single rung ladders to the top of the tower. Then you will be awed by the spectacular view.

Eliot Arts Magnet is the middle school for families seeking a rigorous arts conservatory with a French dual language option. Dr. Scheckel and her team have successfully implemented the arts and French curriculum at Altadena Arts Magnet elementary school, and now she is excited to continue the work by building the arts conservatory and French dual language program for our students in middle school. To support this transformation, Eliot is one of three schools in the Pasadena Unified School District to be the recipient of a multi-million-dollar federal magnet grant!

Dr. Scheckel was a performing artist and arts educator herself and is passionate about bringing high quality and rigorous arts experiences to her students. She is currently working with staff, parents, and community members on rebranding the two schools as one. This will bring continuity and articulation between the two school programs for K-8 students in this One School, Two Campus design.
