The safety and well-being of students and staff are a top priority, and the Pasadena Unified School District is taking steps to combat dangers associated with the Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service this week.
By News Desk
PUSD Heat Safety Measures:
- Ensuring access to water and cool indoor spaces during recess, lunch, and nutrition breaks, especially for students with health conditions affected by heat.
- Reducing outdoor activities and adjusting Physical Education schedules, including moving activities indoors for heat-sensitive students.
- Monitoring mobility devices and playground equipment for surface heat.
- Communicating with families about forecast updates.
- Coaches and staff will monitor students’ health during athletic practices and games.
Unless the forecast changes, schools will:
- Implement indoor “rainy day” schedules where air-conditioned space is available.
- Cancel all outdoor and unconditioned indoor activities between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.
- Reschedule any affected activities to a cooler time or a different day.
- Ensure frequent water breaks every 15–20 minutes during any physical activity.
- Check playground equipment temperatures.
- Athletic activities: Weather conditions are being closely monitored and communicated with high schools about home games. At this time, Friday evening games will continue as scheduled. Students are urged to let their coaches know if they are not feeling well during practices and games.
What Families Can Do:
- Send your student with a refillable water bottle.
- Dress your child in lightweight, breathable clothing.
