      August 4:

      – Officer Administers Narcan to Overdose Subject

On August 4, 2023, at 12:39 pm, officers were dispatched to the 1000 Block of Mission Street to assist a person who had overdosed on narcotics and was unconscious.

South Pasadena Police Corporal Borrello arrived on scene and immediately administered two doses of Naloxone, commonly referred to as Narcan, into the subject’s nostrils to counteract the opioid overdose. South Pasadena Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the subject to a local hospital for medical care. Corporal Borrello’s quick thinking and immediate action aided in the subject’s recovery.

      – Distraction Theft Suspects in Custody

On Friday, August 4, 2023, South Pasadena Police Detectives arrested two suspects involved in a distraction theft that had occurred on July 26, 2023, in the 800 block of Brent Avenue.

Before the distraction theft occurred, the victim withdrew a significant amount of U.S. currency from a local bank. Three suspects monitored the victim during the transaction and followed her from the bank to her residence. Once the victim parked her vehicle, one suspect engaged her by falsely indicating she had a flat tire. While the victim’s attention was diverted, the remaining two suspects gained access to her vehicle and removed an envelope containing the U.S. currency.

South Pasadena Police Department Detectives obtained video of the suspects and their vehicle from the victim’s onboard vehicle camera system which allowed detectives to identify the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle used by the suspects was then entered into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS) as a wanted vehicle for the crime committed.

On August 4, 2023, the Glendale Police Department stopped the suspect vehicle and detained its two adult occupants. South Pasadena Police Department Detectives were notified of the detainment and arrived to the Glendale Police Department where they questioned and subsequently arrested an adult female and an adult male. The female suspect was identified as 47 -year-old Omary Vargas, a foreign national, and the male suspect was identified as 52-year-old Miguel Condelucas, also a foreign national. The arrested individuals face a range of charges, including Grand Theft (P.C. 487(a)), Conspiracy (P.C. 182(a)(1)), Forgery (P.C. 470), and Identity Theft (P.C.530.5). Following the arrest, both suspects were booked at Alhambra City Jail.
