POETS SALON
– 4/24/19
Hosted by Kath Abela Wilson
A little breathless, I walked down the cul-de-sac watching the house numbers rise. So many memories. The little cottage where so many things began, and sadly ended. I shivered to think. And then the surprise. Left by the door, tiny rose slippers. Colorful dolls and painted totems.

Apple Blossoms
I am lying on a swing in my daughter’s back yard in Tacoma, WA. It is the day before Easter and the sun is setting on a picture perfect day. I am gazing at an apple tree beginning to blossom and the blue blue sky, wearing a gold colored quilted vest over a black hooded dress under which are grey shorts. I have on white socks with a gold toe and my grandson’s slippers. I am playing fetch with their miniature Australian Sheep dog, Solo, and tell him two things when he brings me a stuffed toy quivering with excitement – “stop” and “drop it.” Possibly the only words I really need to understand in the English language.

Pink Moon: Quotes and Credits
Peggy Castro is retired and divides her time between Tacoma, WA and Los Angeles to be with her 2 daughters and grandchildren. She receives inspiration not only from her family but dogs, a cat, Princess, walks in the gardens of the San Gabriel Valley and light rains of Tacoma. She uses poetry, art, music, tai chi and yoga as forms of meditation and to relate to the world. Finally, it is the gift of mindfulness that is as ordinary as the air she breathes that grounds her in the chaos of our times.
Renee Cassese is a retired Special Education Teacher and Assistant Principal recently transplanted from New York to Southern California: “I’ve been in love with poetry since my mother read me my first nursery rhyme and have written and read it obsessively ever since. After years of writing rhymed verses I discovered that free verse allowed me more freedom to express what was in my heart. Since my poems tend to be short I studied haiku and tanka and settled on the tanka form which best suited my style and subject matter. As I am also an artist, dabbling in scrapbooking, mixed media, acrylic painting, and now watercolor, I searched for a way to incorporate my poetry and art so I wouldn’t have to choose between the two. Tanka and watercolor seemed a creative marriage made in heaven.” See her work on Instagram, @artsypoetessa, and Facebook page (Renee’s Art and Poetry). She has published a book of short stories, “Looking through Windows” and two poetry collections, “I am My Mother’s Only Poem” and “Like a Lotus.”
Vessislava Savova lives in Sofia, Bulgaria: “Spring renewal is a very precious theme to me especially now, two months after surgery, when I started living a new life and appreciating it like a child, with joy. The pink moon is connected with the emotion of renewal and all the colors around are so inspiring and connected with the tradition of painting eggs.”
Lori Kiefer lives in n London, U.K. where she is involved in running a drama and scriptwriting group
for a mental health charity. Her poems are published in several anthologies in the U.K. and U.S. She enjoys writing
short poems while walking through London and traveling on buses.
