Playhouse Village marked its 30th anniversary with an evening of music, memories and community spirit during “Party in the Park,” a free, 1990s-themed concert held Saturday, Sept. 26, at Playhouse Village Park.

Neighbors and visitors gathered to celebrate the Pasadena district’s three decades as a hub for culture, commerce and community. The event featured a performance by Hit Me 90s, local food vendors and activities inspired by the decade in which the Playhouse Village Association was founded.

Many attendees embraced the theme by arriving in their best ’90s attire, adding to the festive atmosphere as families, friends and neighbors enjoyed the evening together.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 30 years of Playhouse Village, and we wanted to celebrate in a way that reflects the energy and community that have defined our neighborhood,” said Cheryl Rizzo, chair of the Playhouse Village Association board.

The celebration also recognized the businesses, organizations and community partners that have helped shape Playhouse Village over the years. Founded in 1996, the Playhouse Village Association works to strengthen the neighborhood’s economic vitality and promote it as Pasadena’s center for culture, commerce and community.

Today, Playhouse Village spans 32 blocks and includes independent shops, restaurants, cafés, arts and cultural institutions, offices, residences and mixed-use spaces. Its walkable streets and proximity to the Metro A Line at Lake Avenue have helped make it a lively destination for dining, shopping, performances, exhibitions and community events.

The most important edit is changing “favorite local food vendors” to “local food vendors.” “Favorite” is vague unless you identify whose favorites they are. I also changed “has defined” to “have defined” because the compound subject is “energy and community.”
