SXSW Documentary Winner “Remaining Native” screens at Patagonia Pasadena July 11 (Photo – Instagram)
Patagonia Pasadena is accustomed to welcoming runners of all speeds and skill levels. This Saturday, July 11, they’ll honor the story of a runner like no other with a 6:30 pm screening of the powerful and unique documentary Native Runner. A suggested $20 donation will benefit the Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy.

Seventeen-year-old Ku Stevens is the only runner on his high school team, with no coach. Living on the Yerington Paiute Reservation in northwestern Nevada, Ku knows he’ll need more than talent to stand out to his dream school, the University of Oregon.
As Ku trains, unresolved emotions resurface, leading him to confront the story of his great-grandfather, Frank Quinn.
At just 8 years old, Frank ran 50 miles across the desert to escape an Indian boarding school. His story becomes intertwined with Ku’s own journey to achieve a collegiate qualifying time.
Will Ku outrun his history, or will he learn to run alongside it as he pursues his dreams?
Event Details
Doors open at 6:00 pm for the 87-minute screening. At 6:30 pm, attendees will be introduced to the Conservancy, followed by the film screening. A Q&A with the filmmakers will take place immediately afterward at 8:00 pm.
Tickets can be reserved with a suggested donation at this link. Cash donations will also be accepted at the door.
Remaining Native (2026) won the SXSW Documentary Feature Special Jury Award and Audience Award. The film is directed by Paige Bethmann and features Ku Toven Stevens. Producers include Jessica Epstein, Paige Bethmann, and Judd Ehrlich. The film is edited by Stephanie Khoury.
