Pasadena Water and Power (PWP), in partnership with Tesla, has officially opened the Marengo Charging Plaza.
Located on the top level of the Marengo Parking Garage at 155 E. Green Street, the Marengo Charging Plaza consists of twenty four Tesla Supercharger, and twenty PWP DC Fast Chargers, making it the largest public EV fast-charging station in the nation.
DC Fast Chargers use a 480 volt AC electric circuit which make it possible to recharge 80% of an EV battery in thirty minutes or less.
Grand opening perks
For the grand opening of the Marengo Charging Plaza, EV drivers can “power up” their vehicles at no cost. Free charging might change in the coming months, according to a press release by PWP.
There are 293 public charging stations in the city of Pasadena, 31 of which are free EV charging stations. Pasadena has a total of 53 DC Fast Chargers, 24 of which are Tesla Superchargers. (Click the PlugShare link to learn more about available EV charging sites).
Incentives for Electric Vehicles
PWP recently increased incentives for Electric Vehicles for customers who participate in PWP’s income-qualified programs:
- Any PWP customer who purchases or leases a new or used EV, qualifies to receive $250 in rebates.
- An additional $250 rebate will be given if a customer obtains the EV from a Pasadena auto dealer
- An additional $1,000 rebate (up to $1500) is available for a customer who also participates in PWP’s income-qualified programs.
- PWP also offers up to $600 in rebates to residents interested in installing an EV charger.
Federal and State incentive opportunities can be an added to the City’s incentives for going green. In addition, South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) offers an income-qualified program. (Click here for details).

Unfortunately, because it is on the roof of a parking structure, you have to pay to park. And parking is not cheap. I paid $4.50 for less than an hour
How much for parking?
There are Tesla superchargers at the station, too.
Couldn’t charge my Tesla. Chargers aren’t compatible.
