Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) has begun its annual utility pole inspection program, with work scheduled to continue through June 30. The effort, conducted each year to ensure the safety and reliability of the city’s electrical infrastructure, will focus primarily on neighborhoods within ZIP codes 91103, 91104, 91105, and 91107.

The inspections will be carried out by Osmose Utility Services Inc., an authorized PWP contractor. Crews may need to enter private property to access poles located along back property lines. According to PWP, all Osmose employees will be clearly identifiable—they will wear company uniforms, drive marked vehicles, carry official identification, and knock on doors before entering any private area.
As part of the program, wooden utility poles undergo a detailed evaluation that includes a visual inspection, an internal soundness test, and documentation of each pole’s condition. Crews will look for signs of wear, insect activity, and structural damage, including impacts from vehicles. When possible, repairs will be made on-site. Poles found to be significantly compromised may be scheduled for replacement.
City officials emphasize that the proactive inspection program plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability, improving public safety, reducing long-term operational costs, and preventing unexpected power outages.
