Have you ever spent time in a gay or lesbian bar? Maybe you grew up in these community spaces. Maybe you’ve visited once, or not at all.

      By News Desk

Pasadena Village invites you to join a conversation on Friday, May 8, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, exploring selected chapters from two books: Who Needs Gay Bars? by Greggor Mattson and Moby Dyke: An Obsessive Quest to Track Down the Last Remaining Lesbian Bars in America by Krista Burton.

The conversation will explore not only the assigned chapters but also attendees’ personal experiences in these disappearing spaces, along with their thoughts on the future of gay and lesbian bars within the changing landscape of the LGBTQ+ community and the United States more broadly.

The reading will be emailed upon registration. Space is limited to 17 participants; registration is free.

If you have questions or would like the reading in a larger text size, contact Program Associate Kieran Highsmith at kieran@pasadenavillage.org.

      The Village Movement

Pasadena Village is part of the National Village Movement, a network of communities where members pool resources—through dues and volunteer support—to strengthen the Village infrastructure and assist one another. More than 200 Villages currently operate nationwide, with another 150 in development.

Pasadena Village also belongs to Village Movement California, which works with partners and supporters to transform the experience of aging. VMC believes in the power of community to drive statewide change, providing Villages with the tools, connections, and visibility they need to thrive. Together, Villages aim to ensure that all Californians have access to vibrant communities that support aging well. See also Village to Village Network.
