The Pasadena Unified Board of Education will receive a public update on the district’s Eaton Fire soil remediation project during its July 16 meeting and consider additional actions related to restoring school campuses.

According to the district, the presentation will outline environmental testing conducted after the Eaton Fire, findings that identified fire-related contaminants at multiple campuses, and remediation work underway in coordination with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. District officials also plan to discuss planning and coordination with public agencies throughout the cleanup process.
The board is also scheduled to consider a resolution affirming the district’s authority under state law to perform work on school property. In addition, trustees will meet in closed session to receive legal advice regarding potential litigation related to protecting district campuses.
“We know this project has raised difficult questions throughout our community,” Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco said in a statement. “Tomorrow’s presentation is an opportunity to explain why this work is necessary, how these decisions have been made, and the steps the District has taken to protect both student safety and as many trees as possible.”
District officials said their priority remains removing fire-related contaminants from affected campuses and restoring safe outdoor learning spaces before students return for the 2026-27 school year.
The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm in the Pasadena Unified School District Board Room, 351 S. Hudson Ave. Members of the public may attend in person or watch the meeting online. The meeting agenda is available on the district’s website.
