A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Eliot Arts Magnet School on Wednesday, December 10, unveiled a new Library Book Vending Machine, donated by City National Bank.

The event, part of City National’s Reading is the Way Up program, emphasized the importance of promoting literacy, fostering joy in reading, and supporting student choice. The vending machine was stocked with new books provided by City National.
“This new Library Book Vending Machine is more than just a fun addition to our school, it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and the power of reading,” said Principal Lanisha McKenzie. “In times of transition, moments like these remind us of the strength of our community and our commitment to nurturing a love of learning in every student.”
This ceremony was particularly meaningful for the Eliot Arts community, as the school is temporarily located at the McKinley School campus following significant damage from the Eaton Fire. The gift of books and the new vending machine serve as a hopeful and supportive gesture for students and staff during this time of transition.
The event featured a series of celebratory activities. After a drumline performance, Principal McKenzie welcomed attendees. Local dignitaries, including PUSD administrators and Board of Education members Michelle Richardson Bailey and Jennifer Hall Lee, also attended and took the stage to deliver remarks. The highlight of the morning was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by the first official book selection from the vending machine by Eliot Arts students.
The vending machine offers students an exciting opportunity to select books, helping to nurture a love of reading in a fun and engaging way.
