Enjoy a free Party on Sunday, June 9, 2024, to celebrate Pasadena’s Birthday at Pasadena Museum of History.

      By News Desk

Everyone is invited to celebrate as Pasadena Museum of History  and the City of Pasadena present a star-studded party in honor of Pasadena’s 138th birthday on Sunday, June 9.

Happy Birthday Pasadena: Silver Screen Extravaganza! will take place throughout the grounds at Pasadena Museum of History from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm, featuring free cake, music, and entertainment, along with a variety of activities that will amuse and delight visitors of all ages. The theme for our celebration is inspired by the all-new exhibition, Lights, Camera, Action! Hollywood Magic in Pasadena, debuting for its opening weekend in our History Center Galleries. This blockbuster exhibition and the large-scale Happy Birthday Pasadena party are highlights of Pasadena Museum of History’s Centennial Year Celebrations.

      Activities and Schedule

The festivities will run nonstop from noon to 4:00 pm with the Official Cake Cutting with Mayor Victor M. Gordo at 2:00 pm. Cake will be served immediately following the ceremony.

The mayor is not the only VIP. At this event, you, too can be a star! Walk the red carpet entrance in costume as a favorite character or choose to play a behind-the-scenes role as a director, makeup artist, costumer, or enthusiastic audience member. Strike a pose on our movie production sets as a star in Pirates of the Caribbean, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and The Wizard of Oz. Learn the Hand Jive, Thriller, and Wednesday Addams dances and show off your movie smarts in our trivia questionnaire.

Enjoy movie-themed music with our DJ and live performances by Gypsy Jambo! Be dazzled as chalk artists preview the talent that’s in store for the upcoming Pasadena Chalk Festival. Grab a bag of popcorn and relax in our theater where vintage silent movies starring iconic comedians Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd are on the bill. We’re even screening a film shot on location right here on the Fenyes Estate in 1912 by famed director D.W. Griffith!

Younger guests (and the young-at-heart) can create a movie inspired hat or headpiece with Art 2 Go, enjoy water fun at Pump and Splash!, play disc golf, and visit other activity stations hosted by our Event Partners scattered throughout the grounds.

Everyone in costume is eligible to win free movie tickets; drawings begin at 2:30 pm (winners must be present). Winners of the Trivia Contest Baskets will be notified after the event and pickup scheduled.

      Admission, Location, Parking

Admission is free; no tickets or reservations required. Pasadena Museum of History, 470 W. Walnut St., Pasadena, CA 91103. Free street parking is available on W. Walnut Street and surrounding areas.

Updated event details will be posted on the Museum’s website.
