The City of Pasadena Public Works Department will host a community outreach event on Thursday, May 14, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Willard Elementary School, 301 Madre Street, to provide updates on the Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project.

The event will highlight the project’s 90% park design, giving attendees an opportunity to explore its key features and learn about the final design concept. Community members will also be able to see how public input has influenced the project’s development and share their support while participating in family-friendly activities.
Since Winter 2025, the city has held four outreach events during the design phase to gather feedback and refine plans. The project is now nearing completion of this stage.
The proposed site is a vacant, city-owned parcel located next to Eaton Blanche Park. The project takes advantage of a 10,294-acre upstream drainage area and its proximity to the Eaton Wash Channel to improve water quality in the Eaton Wash, Rio Hondo, and Los Angeles Rivers.
Plans for the site include underground stormwater infiltration and treatment systems, along with above-ground improvements designed to create an inclusive, multi-benefit passive park. Proposed features include bioswales and other stormwater elements, shaded gathering spaces, walking paths, outdoor classrooms, demonstration and community gardens, a dog park, and interpretive signage highlighting the site’s history.

I am pleased at Pasadena’s proactive plans to enhance the reliability of our water supply. We can no longer rely on the Colorado, or MWD to help us, but we are well positioned to become more water independent with more simple projects and better management.
