This October, the Pasadena Senior Center will offer two free workshops for caregivers, family members and patients seeking information about benefits, research and care resources.

Online Workshop on Medicare Dementia Benefits

The Pasadena Senior Center and the Foundation for Senior Services will host a free online workshop about Medicare dementia benefits at 10:00 am Thursday, October 8.

Held via Zoom, the workshop will cover Medicare’s GUIDE model, which provides care management, family resources and a limited number of in-home care hours for families navigating dementia care.

The online format may be especially convenient for caregivers who cannot leave their loved ones for extended periods. The program is scheduled to sunset in 2032.

      Registration is required.

      In-Person Alzheimer’s Research Workshop

An in-person workshop, “The STEP Initiative: Advances in Alzheimer’s Research and Navigating Care Today,” will take place at 3:30 pm Thursday, October 15, at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St.

Presented by rising juniors at Westridge School in Pasadena, the workshop will examine developments in Alzheimer’s research and treatment options. Participants will learn about recent changes affecting insurance and access to care, as well as resources for patients and families.

The student-run community organization will also discuss clinical trials and ways to get involved in research shaping the future of Alzheimer’s care.

Registration is available through the Pasadena Senior Center’s website.

For more information, call the center at (626) 685-6751 or visit its website.
