The City of Pasadena is calling on residents to help design the future of a transformative new public space through input on the Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project. The community is encouraged to participate in a public survey open through Friday, July 25, which will help guide the design of above-ground features for the new passive park and environmental site.

The Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project is a major initiative that aims to improve regional water quality while also reimagining a long-vacant city-owned parcel next to Eaton Blanche Park. Leveraging the 10,294-acre upstream drainage area and its connection to the Eaton Wash storm channel, the project will feature underground stormwater infiltration and treatment systems designed to enhance water quality in Eaton Wash, the Rio Hondo, and the Los Angeles Rivers.
In addition to its environmental impact, the project brings new life to the former site of the Earthside Nature Center, once known for its native wildflowers and educational programs. Plans for the site include restoring and repurposing the Earthside Gateway, creating shaded gathering spaces, an outdoor classroom, and interpretative signage highlighting the site’s natural and cultural history.
Above ground, the project will become a multi-benefit passive park, with community feedback playing a central role in shaping its amenities. Early design concepts inspired by resident input include a pedestrian plaza, demonstration gardens featuring four California plant communities, a community garden, stormwater-powered water features, a dog park, and improved parking and access.
Led by the Department of Public Works, the project is supported by funding from the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Water Program (SCWP) through the Measure W regional grant. A feasibility study was previously funded by the City’s Measure W Local Returns.
